Meet our Staff

Many of our counselors were Ma-He-Tu campers themselves!

We also have a tradition of attracting wonderful international staff members,
who come to us full of fun and great ideas!

When seeking out staff members we look for counselors who have tons of enthusiasm, lots of energy, plenty of patience, a good sense of humor, experience working with children, and unique talents that will enhance our program.

We have a special group of people on our staff each summer. They are our Counselors In Training.

CITs are usually 16 year olds, who have been campers in the past. They have two very important jobs at camp. They assist counselors in program and living areas and work in the kitchen assisting the cook.

We are always looking for new staff members.

If you or someone you know might be interested in working for 8 weeks of the summer as a counselor please contact Lynne Steketee at lsteketee@mahetu.org. You can submit a staff application online by clicking Staff Application Form

For more than 70 years we have been providing girls of all ages a safe and fun filled summer. We place a high value on our traditions, but we are equally proud of our ability to be innovative and flexible, so that we can meet the needs of girls in 2008 as well as we did way back in 1937.

Ma-He-Tu is a place where every girl can find a connection that makes her feel special.

Our staff is trained to focus on the individual camper and build on each one’s strengths. It is our belief that when campers are having a great time, wonderful things can happen. As girls get involved in the excitement of the program, they learn to work and play together, to solve problems, to make good decisions, and to value the results of their efforts. It has been our privilege over the years to watch our campers grow physically, socially, mentally, and spiritually. And they think they’re just having fun!

Our program will be directed by Camp Director Janet “Igoe” Paddack. Janet has been directing Camp Ma-He-Tu since 1994. Other summers found her heading up the waterfront, working as a counselor, and even playing as a camper.

A nurse is in residence throughout the summer to tend to all routine and emergency medical needs. Many of our staff members are first aid and CPR certified. We have a physician available for office visits and Good Samaritan Hospital, in nearby Suffern, is easily accessible in cases of emergency. An Automated External Defibrilator (AED) and a resuscitator are kept on site.
